The present article analyzes Kinetic Drawing, a piece developed by Heather Hansen since 2013, in which dance, yoga and painting are fused through performances. Generic helical edge states due to Rashba spin-orbit coupling in a topological insulator

We study the helical edge states of a two-dimensional topological insulator without axial spin symmetry due to the Rashba spin-orbit interaction. Lack of axial spin symmetry can lead to so-called generic helical edge states, which have energy-dependent spin orientation. This opens the possibility of inelastic backscattering and thereby nonquantized transport. Here we find analytically the new dispersion relations and the energy dependent spin orientation of the generic helical edge states in the presence of Rashba spin-orbit coupling within the Bernevig-Hughes-Zhang model, for both a single isolated edge and for a finite width ribbon. In the single-edge case, we analytically quantify the energy dependence of the spin orientation, which turns out to be weak for a realistic HgTe quantum well. Nevertheless, finite size effects combined with Rashba spin-orbit coupling result in two avoided crossings in the energy dispersions, where the spin orientation variation of the edge states is very significantly increased for realistic parameters. Finally, our analytical results are found to compare well to a numerical tight-binding regularization of the model.Comment: 21 pages (main text 11 pages), 11 figure

Cuidados de enfermería a pacientes oncológicos

    Get PDF
Fil: Molina, Laura. Universidad Nacional de Cuyo. This article is based on the results of a master’s dissertation entitled A Needs Analysis into the Compulsory English Courses of South Colombian University (USCO). This study has three aims: first, to identify the disfavouring conditions that teachers consider to be affecting the courses in question; second, to identify a possible gap between the felt needs of current and former students and the English language training which they receive at USCO; and third, to collect suggestions from stakeholder groups for future improvements to the courses. Data was collected through questionnaires and interviews; the participants included current students, former students, teachers, and the supervisor of the courses. The results show that students’ needs are not currently being met and that an English for Specific Purposes approach is required. Teachers face a lack of educational resources and limited cohesion amongst colleagues, while the major problem of the supervisor is that of budgeting. Charm and Hidden Charm Scalar Resonances in Nuclear Matter

We study the properties of the scalar charm resonances Ds0(2317)D_{s0}(2317) and D0(2400)D_0(2400), and the theoretical hidden charm state X(3700) in nuclear matter. We find that for the Ds0(2317)D_{s0}(2317) and X(3700) resonances, with negligible and small width at zero density, respectively, the width becomes about 100MeV100 {\rm MeV} and 200MeV200 {\rm MeV} at normal nuclear matter density, accordingly. For D0(2400)D_0(2400) the change in width is relatively less important. We discuss the origin of this new width and trace it to reactions occurring in the nucleus. We also propose a possible experimental test for those modifications in nuclear matter, which will bring valuable information on the nature of those scalar resonances and the interaction of DD mesons with nucleons.Comment: 3 pages, 3 figures, to appear in the proceedings of the International Conference on Particles And Nuclei (PANIC08), Eilat, Israel, November 9-14, 200

This article will analyze the possible relationships between the architecture promoted by Federico II in the south of Italy and the construction that, later on, was undertaken by the infante Fadrique of Castile in Seville, known as don Fadrique’s Tower. The above mentioned relationships are based on the historical accounts that demonstrate the presence of the infante don Fadrique at the court of Federico II between the years 1240 and 1245.En este articulo se procedera a la realizacion de un analisis de las posibles relaciones entre la arquitectura promovida por Federico II en el sur de Italia y la construccion que con posterioridad realizo el infante Fadrique de Castilla en Sevilla, conocida como la Torre de don Fadrique. The effect of dietary fat intake on the metabolic syndrome (MetS) and in turn on cardiovascular disease (CVD) remains unclear in individuals at high CVD risk. Objective: To assess the association between fat intake and MetS components in an adult Mediterranean population at high CVD risk. Design: Baseline assessment of nutritional adequacy in participants (n = 6560, men and women, 55–75 years old, with overweight/obesity and MetS) in the PREvención con DIeta MEDiterránea (PREDIMED)-Plus randomized trial. Methods: Assessment of fat intake (total fat, monounsatured fatty acids: MUFA, polyunsaturated fatty acids: PUFA, saturated fatty acids: SFA, trans-fatty acids: trans-FA, linoleic acid, a-linolenic acid, and w-3 FA) using a validated food frequency questionnaire, and diet quality using 17-item Mediterranean dietary questionnaire and fat quality index (FQI). Results: Participants in the highest quintile of total dietary fat intake showed lower intake of energy, carbohydrates, protein and fiber, but higher intake of PUFA, MUFA, SFA, TFA, LA, ALA and !-3 FA. Differences in MetS components were found according to fat intake. Odds (5th vs. 1st quintile): hyperglycemia: 1.3–1.6 times higher for total fat, MUFA, SFA and w-3 FA intake; low high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-c): 1.2 higher for LA; hypertriglyceridemia: 0.7 lower for SFA and w-3 FA intake. Conclusions: Dietary fats played different role on MetS components of high CVD risk patients. Dietary fat intake was associated with higher risk of hyperglycemia. The PREDIMED-Plus trial was supported by the official funding agency for biomedical research of the Spanish government, ISCIII through the Fondo de Investigación para la Salud (FIS), which is co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund (four coordinated FIS projects led by Jordi Salas-Salvadó and Josep Vidal, including the following projects: PI13/00673, PI13/00492, PI13/00272, PI13/01123, PI13/00462, PI13/00233, PI13/02184, PI13/00728, PI13/01090, PI13/01056, PI14/01722, PI14/00636, PI14/00618, PI14/00696, PI14/01206, PI14/01919, PI14/00853, PI14/01374, PI16/00473, PI16/00662, PI16/01873, PI16/01094, PI16/00501, PI16/00533, PI16/00381, PI16/00366, PI16/01522, PI16/01120, PI17/00764, PI17/01183, PI17/00855, PI17/01347, PI17/00525, PI17/01827, PI17/00532, PI17/00215, PI17/01441, PI17/00508, PI17/01732, PI17/00926), the Especial Action Project entitled: Implementación y evaluación de una intervención intensive sobre la actividad física Cohorte PREDIMED-PLUS grant to Jordi Salas-Salvadó, the European Research Council (Advanced Research Grant 2013-2018; 340918) grant to Miguel Ángel Martínez-Gonzalez, the Recercaixa grant to Jordi Salas-Salvadó (2013ACUP00194), grants from the Consejería de Salud de la Junta de Andalucía (PI0458/2013; PS0358/2016; PI0137/2018), the PROMETEO/2017/017 grant from the Generalitat Valenciana, the SEMERGEN grant, and CIBEROBN and FEDER funds (CB06/03), ISCIII.
